Isle of Iona

'The Isle of Dreams'
The Isle of Iona stands on some of the oldest rock in the world. It is a place steeped in myth and legend, a place where 'the veils are thin' , so that it is easy to feel that the earth itself is steeped in powerful spiritual energy.  On a bright morning, the islands of the Hebrides emerge from the misty blue horizon like the lost lands of legend. This island of holy pilgrimage has brought peace to the hearts of seekers for centuries

And yet it is a deeply grounded place too - winter gales and wild seas sweep the land and shepherds tend their flocks in winds that make it hard to breathe. This is the spiritual home of the Celtic way - a path that knows the light of the Great Mystery that shines within all things, and at the same time, sings a blessing for the intimate tasks of daily life.

Iona - Fiona Macleod

Author William Sharp wrote these words about Iona, in early 1900, under his pen name 'Fiona Macleod''. His works capture the mystical beauty, the light and the shadow, of life on an island steeped in legend and mystery.

He wrote - “None can understand it who does not see it through its pagan light, its Christian light, its singular blending of paganism and romance and spiritual beauty.
There is, too, an Iona that is more than Gaelic, that is more than a place rainbow-lit with the seven desires of the world, the Iona that, if we will it so, is a mirror of your heart and of mine.”
